Abstract

This article deals with the topic of human rights from a critical perspective, as a cultural phenomenon, the product of the invention of traditions created by dominant peoples. This non-traditional vision aims to understand the non-romantic reality of the emergence of these rights, considering their roots in the exploitation of a dominant class at a certain moment in history and then realizing that legal provision is not enough, it is also necessary to recognize a new paradigm, built on a more ethical foundation. From then on, the possibility of extending human rights to include other non-human animals, such as great apes and other beings with complex cognitive abilities, is examined. This expansion of rights beyond the human sphere reflects an evolution in ethical understanding and the search for a more inclusive and supportive society, recognizing the interconnection between human interests and ethical consideration for animals.
