Abstract

Legal education in Brazil began during the Imperial period with the establishment of the first Law Schools in São Paulo and Olinda. These institutions came to play a central role in the education of Brazil's political and administrative elites. However, the consolidation of legal education during the Empire did not occur in a linear or peaceful manner, as it was marked by disputes among different educational projects, ideological conflicts, and successive legislative reforms.
