Abstract

Objectives: analyse the results of the therapeutic approach of the Bartholin gland pseudocyst (BP) through marsupialization, and avaluate the pregress history of those women. Materials and Methods: a cohort study based on the analysis of medical records of women diagnosed with BP assisted by the Vulvar Pathology Outpatient Clinic at major Brazilian university hospital, from January 2000 to December 2016. The variables analyzed were: unilateral or bilateral marsupialization, complications associated with the procedure, rate of recurrence and time elapsed between intervention and recurrence, follow-up, age, previous history of BP or Bartholin abscesses (BA), and history of sexually transmissible infections (STI). The statistical analysis was descriptive, using the Statistic Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results: 244 records of women with BP were obtained. Among these, 140 women with 150 BC were included. The relapse rate for marsupialization was 7.33% (11/150). There were nointraoperative complications and the rate of postoperative complications was 4.67% (7/150). Of the 244 selected women, 90.98% (22/244) were under 50 years of age, 78.69% (192/244) had at least one previous episode of BP or BA, and 41% (100/244) reported at least one previous incision with drainage. Conclusion: It was observed that the therapeutic approach was successful in most procedures. The biggest prevalence occured in women who were less than 60 years old and with previous history ou BP ou BA.
