Introduction: Surgical procedures involved in tooth extraction invariably generate postoperative pain, requiring professional attention and the administration of drug strategies and/or therapies, to provide greater comfort for the patient during the healing period. Objective. This integrative review aims to analyze the literature on photobiomodulation protocols, which aim to reduce or eliminate postoperative pain, in cases where tooth extractions are performed. Material and Methods: An extensive literature search was carried out, using PubMed, Lilacs and Cochrane databases, allowing a bibliographic survey to carry out the proposed work. Results: The bibliographic survey resulted in the selection of five studies that were analyzed through a modified form of URSI, allowing the understanding regarding the type of laser, energy, wavelength, power density and positive or negative response in relation to the reduction or elimination of pain. Conclusions. Most analyzes showed positive results when photobiomodulation was associated with strategies to reduce or eliminate post-extraction pain. However, standardization and the design of new studies are crucial to even more predictable clinical outcomes.
