Abstract

Introduction: Implant-supported prostheses improve patients' quality of life, but there are challenges due to changes in local anatomy, both in relation to tissue volume and bone deficiency and position, which can directly affect the positioning of the implant, consequently its survival. Objective: to carry out an integrative review of the literature, to verify the effectiveness of the association of the use of hyperbaric oxygen as an adjuvant therapy in the rehabilitation with dental implants of patients who underwent ablative surgery with the use of radiotherapy for the treatment of head and neck câncer. Materials and methods: For this purpose, original articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in academically recognized scientific journals were included, and written in Portuguese, English and Spanish, which are within the research proposal. Studies published in 2017 or less will be excluded. Results and discussion: The use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for patients undergoing dental implant placement has been the subject of studies and divergent opinions by authors. Authors' opinions vary regarding the effectiveness of HBOT in implant placement in irradiated patients, requiring more detailed, high-quality clinical studies to provide more conclusive evidence on the indications and results of this therapy. Conclusion: It can be observed that there are divergent perspectives regarding the use of HBO in the placement of implants in irradiated patients. Some studies suggest benefits in implant stability and soft tissue regeneration, while others question their need.
