Abstract

Introduction: Cannabis sativa contains THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and its use leads to a myorelaxant effect. Its use should be regulated because, if used in large quantities, it can cause intoxication. Objective: To analyze bibliographically the effect of cannabis in the treatment of bruxism and associated sleep disorders. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review based on articles from the PubMed database, using selection criteria for articles published between 2014 and 2022 in Portuguese and English. Results: The search yielded 8 articles that met the selected filters at the end of the exclusion criteria. Conclusion: It is concluded that THC has a myorelaxant effect on the masticatory muscles and the central nervous system, providing continuous relief, especially in sleep bruxism.
