Visagism in dentistry: analysis of the correlation between facial type, tooth shape and personality

Abstract

Objective: To assess the existence of a relationship between facial type, tooth shape, and temperamental profile in individuals according to visagism concepts in dentistry. Materials and Methods: Students from the institution were selected to respond to a questionnaire to determine temperamental profiles, and facial and smile photographs were taken for facial type and dental shape analysis using the VisagiSmile software. Additionally, statistical analysis and graph creation were performed for result interpretation. Results: 102 individuals participated in the research, with the majority being female. The oval facial type was predominant, the dynamic temperament profile was most common, and the square tooth shape was the most evident. Conclusion: There was no significant evidence of a correlation between temperament, teeth shapes, and facial types. Further studies are necessary to assess whether facial type and tooth shape influence an individual's temperament, using more significant samples to obtain more reliable results. It is not possible to affirm the existence of correlation based on the limitations of the obtained results.
