Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a neoplasm of the digestive tract that includes tumors originating in the large intestine and rectum. The treatment of CRC is individualized and involves surgical, chemotherapeutic, and/or radiotherapeutic procedures. After surgical resection, many patients require colostomy. Objective: To analyze the impact of colostomy and the effectiveness of clinical interventions on the quality of life of CRC patients. Methodology: This is a literature review with a search of publications in the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) database and the Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library (BVS), using the controlled descriptors "colorectal neoplasms," "colostomy," "quality of life," and the Boolean operator "AND". Articles published between 2013 and 2023, in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, and studies of controlled clinical trials or observational studies with available full text were included. Articles unrelated to the topic, systematic reviews, and duplicates were excluded. Results: The search resulted in a total of 17 scientific articles. Through the studies analyzed, it was observed that CRC patients suffer an impact on their quality of life when undergoing colostomy. Conclusions: Psychological, digestive symptoms, and sexual complaints were the most reported. The application of lavender oil and the use of a moldable skin barrier on the colostomy bag were effective in reducing complications. Holistic care models showed beneficial effects on quality of life.
