Introduction: Dengue is an arboviral disease caused by the DENV virus. This virus has four antigenically distinct serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. Serotypes DENV-1 and DENV-2 are believed to be circulating widely in South America. Data from the Institute of Health Information indicate that 302,457 confirmed cases of dengue were recorded in 2024 in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The municipality of São Francisco do Itabapoana is located in the northern Fluminense region of the state and also had an outbreak of dengue cases in the same year. Objective: carry out a historical analysis of dengue cases and notifications in the municipality from 2014 to 2024. Methodology: The data for this study were extracted from the Ministry of Health for the last 10 years, obtained from the following government platforms: Department of National Informatics, Brazilian Health System, Health Information, and Information System for Notifiable Diseases. Results: The data indicate that 4,910 cases of dengue fever have been reported in the municipality over the last 10 years. The year with the highest number of dengue fever cases was 2024, with 3,286 cases, which is equivalent to 66.92% of the cases in the historical curve. As for the serotype, the virus was identified in only two cases, one case in 2015 and another case in 2024, which is equivalent to 0.04% of the cases in the historical series, and the serotype tracked was DENV1. In a total of 4,908 cases, this information was ignored in 99.96%. Conclusion: We found a high rate of underreporting in several important parameters for the development of public policies for promotion, protection, and rehabilitation that prevent the understanding of dengue fever in the locality.
