Abstract

Introduction: Heterotopy can be defined as the occurrence of well-differentiated tissue in an abnormal location, a synonym used by some authors is "choristoma" (greek Chorists = separated), which denotes a mass of histologically normal tissue located in an unusual place. Heterotopic tissues of various types have been described in the literature, such as gastric mucous and intestinal mucous, comparing with the entire gastrointestinal tract, reports of heterotopic gastric mucous in the gallbladder are extremely rare. Objective: disclose an atypical case of heterotopic gastric mucosa in the gallbladder in a patient of the Hospital Escola de Valença, with its consequent outcome, through the analysis of medical records. Case report: 41-years-old woman treated at the Hospital Escola de Valença presenting recurrent pain in the right hypochondrium and epigastric region, abdominal distension, nausea and jaundice, being diagnosed with gastric mucosa heterotopy in the gallbladder and submitted to laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Conclusion: The diagnosis should always be considered in young patients with aliasic cholecystitis and in any type of morphological alteration of the gallbladder, due to the association between this alteration and the increased risk of cancer.
