Abstract

Introduction: The incorporation of telemedicine into the workflow of healthcare teams within the Unified Health System (SUS) requires Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to graduate students with competence in digital health, thereby justifying the recent inclusion of the topic in the National Curriculum Guidelines for undergraduate medical courses. The objective of this study was to address the main obstacles and challenges faced by HEIs in incorporating telemedicine into undergraduate medical curricula. Material and Methods: This is an integrative literature review (ILR) using studies published between January 2021 and July 2025, available in full text in the following electronic databases: LILACS, SciELO, and PubMed. The descriptors were extracted from the DeCS and MeSH controlled vocabularies. The search yielded 25 articles. Results and Discussion: After applying the inclusion criteria and removing duplicate articles, 7 publications remained. There are obstacles and challenges faced by Brazilian HEIs in incorporating telemedicine into undergraduate medical school curricula. Conclusion: Among the main challenges are resistance to change by the academic community; concerns regarding humanization, teleconsultation quality, and data security; a lack of faculty training in digital health resources; a lack of digital literacy among students; and the absence of adequate technological infrastructure.
